Pregaming 4/17/2012

We’re going to try out recording some of our planning sessions for our podcast’s and see how it goes. There’s a bit more in the crude humor/inside jokes/personal stories/MEGA SPOILERS categories, this week is a pretty epic Game of Thrones chat for the most part.

Episode 15 – Bender

Sorry for the delay, the end of a semester can get really busy. We talked about Bender from Futurama this week, and had an absolute blast talking about one of our favorite TV comedies. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favor and watch as many episodes as you can.

Episode 14: Saruman

In this episode we focus on the great villainous character of Saruman. He is the only character in Tolkien’s whole created world which turns between good and evil, and we wanted to talk about what makes such a thing happen and how it influences our take on the whole series. We pretty quickly digress into talking about The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion in general, including a fairly epic Tom Bombadil discussion.

Episode 13: Katniss Everdeen

So after a short hiatus we’re back and talking about Katniss from The Hunger Games franchise, which is apparently now a HUGE deal. We read the book over the past week and we’re bringing you our take on a surprisingly good read. We draw comparisons to other hero cycle works and dystopian fiction, and specifically spend a large amount of time focused of how Katniss is a character that deals with living in a dystopia rather than a character who rebels against it or accepts their position.

Episode 12: James Tiberius Kirk

Episode 11: Lando Calrissian

This time we cover a true rebel hero. We struggle to try to keep a straight face dealing with such a cool and amazing character. Somehow we managed to find two points of comparison between Lando and Hank Rearden of Atlas Shrugged. Below is a picture of what might happen if Lando didn’t get to fly the Falcon in the Battle of Endor, as well as a link to the starwars.com encyclopedia page for Lando, which is high comedy. His species: “A particularly good-looking human”, his weapon: “Blaster pistol, devastating smile”. Enjoy

Episode 9: George Costanza

This time we spend our time talking about perhaps our favorite sitcom character, George Costanza. A pile of sin and narcissism, George provides the groundwork for a great conversation. Recalling many of the seemingly countless George moments, we tried our best to figure out what George has to teach us.

Episode 8: Dr. Byron Orpheus

In this episode we take a look at Dr. O from The Venture Brothers.  We break down everything we love about this fantastic show along the way, and try to figure out if there’s another character on the show who actually takes themselves seriously.

Episode 7: Sterling Archer

In our latest episode, we talk about the great Sterling Archer from the animated TV comedy Archer. If you’ve never seen it, be sure to check it out on Netflix. We explore this great comedic lead and his seeming awareness that he’s the punchline of the joke and his complete unadulterated hedonism.
